Hot Water Units
What Is Solar Powered Hot Water Units in Perth?
A solar hot water unit is a water heater that uses solar panels to collect energy from the sun to power it. Solar collectors are placed on your rooftop to provide a cost-effective way to heat water in your home. You will see your electricity bills lowered while still keeping your water hot.
There are two kinds of solar units. Active solar water units will use a pump to circulate hot water to your home. Many plumbers install these in colder climates, as the water is stored inside to prevent freezing.
Passive solar units allow hot water to rise and cold water to sink. Therefore, water is circulated with convection. In homes that use this type of solar power, a tankless water heater can be used as a backup energy source.
Residential areas can have one of three solar collectors:
- Glazed flat-plate collectors are insulated and waterproof boxes. If you use this for solar energy, know that there are also unglazed flat plate systems that are generally used for pool heating.
- Integral collector storage systems are installed in mild freeze climates as they may freeze in cold temperatures.
- Evacuated tube solar collectors absorb solar energy but stop radiative heat loss through the fin. These tube systems have an outer glass tube and a metal inner tube attached to the fin.
